I am a freshman at Northeastern University studying Business Marketing & Finance and in the Honors Program. I was extremely involved and academically successful in high school and I feel like the Northeastern curriculum isn’t as challenging as I hoped. I have so many credits coming in that I am already qualified to be a Sophomore.
Long term, I’d like to see myself in a career Business Consulting, private wealth Management, Corporate Upper Management, or potentially law.
I became really involved at NU and have had a wonderful social experience with college. Im enjoying the college transition, just not the school of Northeastern.
I am considering transferring to Cornell University. I am originally from Rochester NY, so upstate NY is closer to home which is not necessarily a priority. I am trying to get into the CU Applied Economics & Management program in the CALS school.
NU has the Co-Op experience, but looking long term am I more competitive and likely to reach my goals by attending a school like Cornell? Or is it worth me to stay at NU?
I appreciate any help at all. I am in a tough position.
IMO, you should not worry about the competitive edge of the schools, especially if you plan on going to Grad school later. Once you get a Graduate degree, your undergrad studies are somewhat less important, like how high school is less important than your Bachelor’s, etc.
I’d say that you should stay at NU, since you are having a great social experience. I know that you don’t like the school itself, but that should just be motivation to study on your own and make yourself successful. Don’t depend on the institution to teach everything, because they WILL dissapoint you eventually. Pick a prestigious school for your Grad studies, as that is what can help make you competitive. Good Luck.
